Cell C has appointed Lars Reichelt as its new CEO. The appointment comes as former CEO Jeffrey Hedberg moves into his new position as chairman of Virgin Mobile SA.

A statement from the telecoms provider says Reichelt is a highly experienced executive in mobile telecommunications and has managed telcos such as Banglalink, Orascom`s venture in Dhaka, T'el'efonica 3G in Zurich, Switzerland, and ONE in Vienna, Austria.

"Cell C is fortunate in attracting a candidate of Lars`s calibre and it is a great pleasure to welcome him to the company. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Jeffrey for his strong contribution to the group and for turning around Cell C over the past three years," says Cell C chairman Simon Duffy.

Hedberg says in the statement he will work with the Virgin Mobile management team as it re-positions the company in the near future. The former Cell C CEO is also looking at other opportunities outside of the Oger Group.

"I am proud of what has been achieved in Cell C during my tenure as CEO and would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our progress, especially the management team and staff of the company. I wish Lars every success in his new role."
