Cell C CTO Pierre Obeid has resigned. In a statement released by the company yesterday, it was announced his resignation is effective immediately.

Obeid has been with Cell C for eight years and was appointed CTO in August 2006.

Cell C CEO Jeffrey Hedberg said Obeid had played an important role in the improvement of the company`s and technology.

"Pierre has been the driving force behind a number of successful initiatives, more recently the migration of our core network to a Huawei core switching network, which has enabled us to effectively the increase in our base. Had we not migrated to the new core network technology, we would have had to build a network three times its current size," Hedberg said.

Cell C will look for Obeid`s replacement from both local and international talent, said Hedberg. "The talent in SA is evident when you look at the sophistication of our industry which compares to the best in the world. We also have the added benefit of having access to top talent abroad through our shareholders."

Meanwhile, Steve Boiles, Cell C`s executive head of networks, will fill the CTO position.
