Cell C is set to launch what it claims is the country`s first airtime voucher that allows subscribers to pay in advance for an entire period`s airtime, while still rationing it for them on a monthly basis.
The steadychat vouchers are available in six-month or 18-month options, and can be loaded on to easychat or cy starter packs, although the existing prepaid tariffs will continue to apply.
"The six month option allows the subscriber to get 30% more airtime value for only R300. This gives them R390 worth of airtime rationed over a six month period, which works out to R65 airtime per month," says Cell C media liaison officer, Vinnie Santu.
"The 18-month card gives the subscriber even more value for money, offering 33% more airtime value for R1 350. This works out to R1 800 worth of airtime rationed over 18 months, or R100 airtime per month."
She says the vouchers are activated via the existing IVR and USSD mechanisms and any unused airtime is automatically carried over to the following month`s balance.
"Customers whose phones are lost or stolen can dial 140 and ask for it to be temporarily deactivated and request a new SIM card. Upon activation of the new SIM card, the value on the subscribers account will still be available," says Santu.
"If additional airtime is required in a given month, subscribers can top up with any of the current denominational chat cards available."
"At the end of the six or 18-month period, the airtime window will be set to the date of the final recharge plus 120 days, as per the current prepaid terms and conditions," she says.
