The Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) says it is experiencing system problems, which has led to downtime.
The office says the system is currently running, but is very slow, because the network is battling to cope with the number of transactions.
System problems are impacting the CIPC's ability to help customers with electronic filings, e-mail, telephonic queries and processing applications, said commissioner Astrid Ludin yesterday in a statement.
Head of communication, marketing and stakeholder relations, Elsab'e Conradie, explains that the office experienced a power failure towards the end of last month, which was one of the factors that led to the system issues.
The CIPC will sort out the issues over the weekend and has advised customers to wait until Tuesday before accessing its electronic system. It has extended the deadline for annual returns due between 1 April and 31 July by three months to the end of October.
Penalties for late returns have also been waived. Conradie adds the CIPC is upgrading its systems to cope with the volumes.
The CIPC was formed after the Companies Act came into effect in May last year, when Cipro and the Office of Companies and Intellectual Property Enforcement were merged.
