The Cape IT Initiative (CITI) is looking outside its immediate members for six new people to be elected to its board.

Masedi Molosiwa, CITI executive director, says this is the first time CITI has looked for board members from outside its immediate constituency. He says the positions are open to all those who are involved in the ICT sector in the province.

"The six industry positions will comprise four from small companies and the other two from ICT global players," Molosiwa says.

Although the board is supposed to have 12 members, it only has seven as five resigned during the course of the year due to personal commitments. Board members are not remunerated for their contributions.

CITI is considered to be important to the development of the Western Cape IT sector and the organisation has been involved in several initiatives to bolster the industry. These include the BandWidthBarn, a cluster of small IT companies in one building with the sponsored by UUNet, and its survey of IT companies in the province.

Nominations open on 14 March and close on 29 March. Candidates, who may not nominate themselves, can only stand for one of the board positions.

People interested in nominating a candidate can do so by contacting Leigh Holt at leigh.holt@citi.org.za.
