Citrix to buy VMLogix
Citrix Systems has entered into an agreement to purchase VMLogix, a privately held virtualisation management provider in California, according to Trading Markets.
VMLogix's acquisition will provide key enhancements to its Citrix OpenCloud and XenServer virtualisation platforms, the company said in a statement.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it's expected to be finalised in the third quarter of 2010, providing satisfactory closing conditions.
Virtualisation 'driving server shipments'
Strong server shipments and revenue growth in the second quarter of 2010 has been driven by virtualisation, it has been suggested, reports Codestone.
A report from Gartner found a total of 2.1 million severs were shipped in this period, CRN.com reports.
It marks a 27.1% increase over that recorded a year earlier, when 1.7 million servers were dispatched.
Hyper 9 boosts virtualisation management
Hyper 9 has unveiled a new calculation tool focused on bringing greater transparency to the 'black box' of virtualisation initiatives, says Network World.
According to Jonathan Reeve, Hyper 9's VP of product management, the company had to respond to the way that virtualisation was having an impact on enterprises. "We were talking to a lot of folks who had gone down the road of 30% of virtualisation and needed to know more about the way that their enterprise was working. In particular, they needed to know if they had sufficient resources to implement changes to their virtual machines."
He said companies were starting to move to the clouds and were implementing features like accurate chargeback as well as having to be more agile about provisioning applications.
