Commissioners wary of payroll system

Hundreds of thousands of dollars could be saved each year by implementing an payroll system, says Maury County's budget director, according to The Daily Herald.

Some county commissioners, however, are sceptical the system would save as much money as their chief financial officer has estimated.

The system would use an electronic card reader to keep track of when employees enter and leave the office. Supervisors would be able to track attendance and overtime electronically, while employees would be able to check payroll information on their computers.

Harmonising HR, payroll

A partnership is blossoming in Britain's public and private sector: HR and payroll departments that have traditionally operated in isolation are getting together, says HR Zone.

As a result, technology is evolving rapidly to streamline the growing partnership. Graham Whitehouse, MD of the software division at HR and payroll firm Selima, looks at how well off-the-shelf packages can meet organisations' specific needs.

The trend towards full human capital management has now led to a demand for HR software equipped to handle an increasing number of functions. That sparked technology providers to adapt to this changing landscape.

NorthgateArinso acquires Neller

NorthgateArinso has acquired Australian HR and payroll solution provider Neller. The acquisition supports software and services provider NorthgateArinso's UK global growth strategy, as it seeks to expand in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia-Pacific, reports Employee Benefits.

Neller develops and markets software and services to support HR professionals. Neller's subsidiary, Neller Employer Services, provides comprehensive outsourced payroll services.

Malcolm Aldis, MD of NorthgateArinso UK, says: "The global recession has been tough for many organisations and this makes it more important than ever for suppliers to be ready to meet the needs of HR directors and provide a cost-effective, efficient service, delivered in the best way for that organisation.”
