In a recent InformationWeek Analytics/Intelligent Enterprise survey of 276 business IT professionals, 59% of respondents said their enterprise content management (ECM) systems could play an expanded role in the enterprise if they could be more easily integrated with third-party applications, says Intelligent Enterprise.

Linking apps to an ECM platform is expensive, involving extensive internal development or third-party specialists. That limits the number of apps and users that can take advantage of the content stored in these platforms.

Enter the Content Management Integration Services standard, a Web services specification that lets competing content management systems share information.

Drupal, Joomla get Google's Friend Connect

Google's social Friend Connect features are now available for open-source content management systems (CMS) Drupal and Joomla, reports WebsiteGear.

Google Friend Connect (GFC) allows sites with these CMSes to integrate many social features without having to write any code.

The impact of the integration has the potential to be significant, as Drupal in particular is one of the most widely used content management systems on the Web today, powering sites from WhiteHouse.gov and Nasa.gov to TheOnion.com and Web sites for celebrities and musicians like Britney Spears and Eric Clapton. Joomla is used by such institutions as Harvard, MTV and Citibank.

Terminalfour secures EUR1.6m investment

Dublin-based Web content management firm Terminalfour has raised EUR1.6 million (R17 million) of equity funding, which should lead to the creation of 15 new jobs by 2011, says Independent.ie.

The firm provides Web content management solutions to universities and public sector bodies, and has more than 200 clients throughout Ireland, Britain and Europe. It now plans to expand its presence in the lucrative North American market.

It also plans to boost staff levels from 35 to 50, including sales, pre-sales and customer service jobs at its Irish headquarters.
