Dimension Data business unit Advanced Infrastructure has signed a partnership agreement with wireless technologist Redline Telecommunications SA.
DiData, which at the end of last year was bought out by Japanese telecoms giant NTT, for R24.2 billion, says Redline's campus broadband solutions product range will add to its offerings. It says the addition gives it a “fuller and more agile” wireless offering.
Redline, a subsidiary of the Parsec Group of companies, was founded in 1999. It is a last mile wireless solutions provider and has installed products in more than 30 countries.
Nicholas Shaw, GM for Advanced Infrastructure: Dimension Data Middle East and Africa, says the company is “constantly exploring how we can provide our clients with the best solution possible within the wireless space. By sourcing niche products, such as Redline's campus to core broadband networks, we are even better equipped to meet increasingly diverse customer demands.”
DiData's Advanced Infrastructure business offers a range of infrastructure services, including communication cabling and wireless solutions. DiData says Redline's free space optical laser technologies are suited to the African market as they offer an “affordable and flexible means of deploying wireless backhaul solutions for point-to-point installations”.
Shaw says these components are easy to install and are the “ideal” temporary solution. “There is plenty of investment coming into Africa and, with the long lead time associated with fibre installations, there is a genuine need for fast, cost-effective alternatives to fibre-optics,” says Shaw.
Shaw explains the product offers capacities of between 100Mbps and 1Gbps and does not require a spectrum licence.
