The solution has been improved to become report-management focused, offering the medium to large enterprise sector control of electronically generated reports and enterprise report management requirements. These can be viewed across LAN, Internet or intranet.
"Companies are faced with the challenge of archiving reports and documents, yet offline and offsite archiving slows down the process of accessing the information when required," says Richard Kantor, business development executive at BB&D.
"It does not make sense to store old data or computer-generated reports on active-disk space as it places a strain on the infrastructure. DigiView eases the load for key production systems through its archiving and compression functionality, providing central storage for processed data and reports that are easily retrieved."
BB&D conducted tests in which it searched a database of close to 10 million pages and found the five reports it was looking for in under a second.
The solution also uses computer output to laser disk technology, which enables it to store electronically generated information, and allows that data to be distributed and displayed when required.
"The benefits of this technology include lowered costs through the efficient management of online documents in addition to improved customer service through faster information retrieval," adds Kantor.
"In the local market where managing bandwidth constraints is key to the efficiency and speed of the corporate network, DigiView compresses and indexes individual pages with the specific, searched-for page located by index. This means only the relevant pages are sent to the user, ensuring there is no unnecessary usage of limited bandwidth. Some of our banking clients access DigiView through 4800 baud lines with no degradation to their branch activities," says Kantor.
The solution can also be integrated with other applications like scanning and imaging systems, and it can be fully customised to suit the customer`s needs. It is currently employed in over 50 sites and runs in varied sectors such as banking, insurance, telecommunications, government, petrochemical, retail and manufacturing.
BB&D has been operating for over 20 years and employs more than 220 software developers.
