Duxbury, Cabletron offer life insurance for LANs

Johannesburg, 02 Jul 1999

Duxbury Networking has introduced a unique new-for-old swap programme on all Cabletron Systems equipment.

Cabletron`s LanCare for Life concept is exclusive to Duxbury in SA, says Graham Duxbury, MD of Duxbury Networking.

It guarantees a two-hour response time and delivery of a replacement or newer version of the faulty unit at no cost to the customer.

Through LanCare for Life anyone who purchased Cabletron equipment from Duxbury after 1 May 1999 has a free life guarantee on the purchase. There is only a charge if the customer needs a Duxbury network specialist to do the installation.

"By `life`, we really mean life, unlike other manufacturers," says Duxbury. "LanCare for Life means that as long as Cabletron equipment is used, the customer is guaranteed new-for-old replacement and free software upgrades."

Apart from protecting investment and reducing network downtime, the concept eliminates network support costs, which according to Duxbury are typically about 12% a month.

However, by now offering the service for free, Duxbury expects to lose some revenue in the short-term but believes the concept will help the company grow market share tremendously. "LanCare offers dramatic savings and allows us to lock people in for Cabletron in the future," says Duxbury.

Cabletron targets higher-end LANs with over 100 users. Duxbury describes his company as a value-added channel partner rather than just a distributor. Cabletron technology is also supported by Datacentrix, Dimension Data, SourceCom and USKO.
