Duxbury introduces Netgear`s new SME networking solutions

Johannesburg, 18 Apr 2002

Duxbury Networking, provider of intelligent networking solutions, has introduced Netgear`s latest range of networking products for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The two new gigabit switches and copper gigabit adapter afford customers a reliable, high-speed and cost-effective network backbone that is trouble-free to manage.

Graham Vorster, Chief Technology Officer at Duxbury Networking, sole vendor representative of Netgear locally, says the local SME market demands consistent network access for sharing of online, hardware and intellectual resources.

"Customers in the SME arena are increasingly on the look out for the latest plug-and-play solutions, capable of managing increasing speed and volume of network traffic. They are also concerned about price and compatibility with existing network infrastructure," he says. "These smart solutions provide a low cost and easy to install networking package with minimal technical administration."

He says Netgear`s newest all-Gigabit range of powerful, smart and uncomplicated networking products, cater specifically for the needs of the SME network, comprising between 50 to 250 users.

The 16- and 24-port gigabit stackable switches and copper gigabit adapter feature Auto Uplink, a mechanism enabling self-reliance, detecting network speed and duplex without any manual setup.

"Auto Uplink enables the switches to instantly identify and configure ports for straight-through or cross-over cabling," he says.

"The two choices for switches provide flexibility for customers depending on how many ports are needed and are invaluable as a reliable network backbone, significantly speeding up network traffic by up to 2000Mbps per port," Vorster says. "This makes them the ideal choice for small businesses working with large amounts of graphical, sound or image data."

Netgear`s copper adapter is an entry-level solution for the small office network. It performs at high speeds and is ideal for server or power workstation needing full-duplex bandwidth.

"Its capability to deliver extensive Windows driver support for interoperability in all major Windows system ensures compliancy between operating platforms," says Vorster.

The adapter runs at 10, 100 or 1000Mbps, enabling businesses to plug it in instantly, upgrading the rest of the network when they are ready, explains Vorster.

Netgear specialises in developing products that enable home and SME users to share Internet access, peripherals, digital content and applications among multiple personal computers and other Internet-enabled devices.
