Duxbury Networking delivers scalable, reliable new smart switches

Duxbury Networking has announced the availability of Netgear's new Gigabit stackable smart switches.
Johannesburg, 13 Jul 2007

The new Gigabit ProSafe stackable smart switches are now available in South Africa from Duxbury Networking.

Gigabit switches are the only stackable smart switches in the industry, offering scalability, performance and reliability to growing businesses that require full-featured network switches, supporting bandwidth-intensive applications with superior security.

Available in 24 and 48 port configurations, the Gigabit ProSafe range of switches are designed to meet the needs of small to medium-sized businesses and feature an additional four shared SFP Gigabit Ethernet fibre ports, to support bandwidth-intensive applications such as ERP applications and large file transfers.

Two dedicated 20Gbps dual-ring stacking ports allow for up to six switches to be stacked, amounting to 288 ports, which can all be easily managed with a single IP address.

"In the modern business environment, there is a growing need for applications such as video conferencing and voice over IP technology," explains Graham Duxbury, managing director of Duxbury Networking.

"This requires a back-end environment where data is transferred at high speeds and, of course, where the necessary security is implemented to protect sensitive information. The Netgear ProSafe Gigabit range of switches delivers the speed and reliability demanded by modern businesses, while ensuring security is maintained."

Duxbury says the Gigabit switches are also managed via an intuitive Web interface that cuts down implementation and maintenance time. This also allows for a stack of switches to be maintained from one consolidated application.

"These switches provide robust security, quality of service and true stacking capability to provide scalability and redundancy," continues Duxbury.

"Complexity is eliminated and the cost usually inherent to a fully-managed Layer 2 switch solution is reduced."

"Whereas regular standalone switches can be daisy-chained to accommodate additional ports, managing the daisy chain with multiple IP addresses can consume time and resources and does not provide resiliency in case of switch failure. The Gigabit smart switches solve this problem with a single IP address for the switch stack, and a rich set of security and management features, matching those you would expect to find in more expensive offerings."
