Duxbury offers Proxim upgrade, competitive trade-in rebate

Johannesburg, 06 Dec 2004

Duxbury Networking, in conjunction with its principal, Proxim, has introduced a "technology migration programme" designed to give network users an opportunity to upgrade their existing networks with the latest wireless (WiFi) products.

Central to the programme is a trade-in offer of up to R2 500 (ex VAT) when existing, outmoded wired equipment is replaced with the ORiNOCO AP-700 Access Point - Proxim`s newest small/medium enterprise-class wireless LAN solution.

The AP-700 is a WiFi-certified, 802.11b/g or 802.11a, wireless LAN solution. Its security features include automatic rogue access point (AP) detection in both the 2.4 and 5GHz bands as well as automatic, universal WiFi client interoperability.

It offers quality of service (QoS) assurance for voice and video and is IEEE 802.11e compliant, delivering greater than 30Mbps throughput for 802.11g in Super Mode.

Other features of the ORiNOCO AP-700 Access Point include:

* Pre-configuration for simultaneous IEEE 802.11b/g and 802.11a radios with +20 dBm - 802.11b;
* +18 dBm - 802.11g and 802.11a output power;
* Built-in diversity 2.4 and 5 GHz antennas;
* External antenna connectors;
* WPA2 security, IEEE 802.11i compliant;
* 16 independent VLANs using different security settings for simultaneous secure use of AP by different groups (employees and guests);
* Remote manageability via SNMPv3 and HTTPS (SSL) and secure Telnet (SSH) Plenum rated, IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet; and
* Kensington lock with cable cover option.

The unit boasts twice the memory of competing APs, according to Duxbury, ensuring software upgradeability. It is backed by a one-year warranty.
