Ebrary offers self-service PDF platform

eBook provider ebrary is opening up a portion of its platform to subscribers of its Academic Complete product, says Library Journal.

Dash - short for ' sharing', and a nod to the speed with which materials are processed - is a self-service tool to help libraries upload locally digitised materials to ebrary's ebook platform.

Once uploaded, items function the same way as any other ebrary PDF; they will be searchable and browser-ready using the QuickView reader.

NCR enhances self-checkout tech

NCR has unveiled a personal-sized checkout solution, the SelfServ Checkout Mini, which is 50% smaller than the standard NCR one-bag self-checkout, to provide fully integrated features, reports India Retailing.

The updated features in the latest solution are aimed at retailers who want to extend the benefits of self-checkout to customers, or want to augment existing self-service checkout capabilities, but have a limited amount of floor space to do so.

The integrated features include NCR's self-learning, weight-based security scale, an intervention light, which will notify the attendant when a shopper needs assistance or intervention is required, and full compatibility with remote desktop attendant stations for security monitoring.

Solution for managing online communities

MarketTools is introducing a self-service product for creating online communities, says Research Magazine.

MarketTools' Community Manager is being made available as a software-as-a-service product for end-users who want to quickly set up and deploy communities in which their customers can interact and give feedback on brands and products.

Features available for use in communities include forums and discussions, stories and articles, blogs and image and video galleries, while text analysis is available to help companies keep tabs on what is being discussed and debated.
