Organisations in the EMEA region, across a broad range of industry sectors, have adopted or expanded implementations of Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications.
This is according to Sergio Giacoletto, executive VP of Oracle EMEA, speaking at Oracle OpenWorld 2008, in San Francisco, this week.
"We are seeing good demand across our overall portfolio, including products from companies that we have acquired," he said. "Many of our applications customers are adding additional applications to their current systems, and our business intelligence solutions are in high demand by companies looking for a clearer and more unified view of their operations."
He said EMEA customers see the value in Oracle's ability to offer a wide range of horizontal and industry-specific vertical applications together with database, middleware, enterprise performance management and business intelligence.
According to Giacoletto, EMEA saw $7.9 billion revenue in FY08, equalling a 34% total revenue growth. He said the region employs 17 100 staff, with 11 300 partners, over 5 800 ISVs, and now has 139 offices in 61 countries. "The company recruited an additional 2 300 partners in 2008."
New business units
Quoting Gartner, he said Oracle Database grew its market share 5.6% in 2007 and middleware 14.4%, in the EMEA region. "It should be noted that CRM on demand is growing in the region in a major way." He hinted at several large customer wins to be announced in the near future.
He said Oracle EMEA is also focusing on its two new business units - tax and insurance. "Especially in emerging markets, taxation services products are in demand, as these areas need to implement modern taxation. Oracle sees plenty of opportunity in this sector."
Talking social responsibility in EMEA, Giacoletto says the Oracle Academy supported 370 900 students in 59 countries, and trained over 1 000 high school and university teachers in database design and programming.
"In addition, 4 159 teachers in SA were trained in a mathematics programme at the University of Johannesburg."
On the whole, he said Oracle is pleased with business performance in the EMEA region. "We will continue to invest in the region and support our partners to meet our strategy of growing Oracle's market share."
