Specialist distributor Duxbury Networking has released the Netgear ProSecure STM series of security appliances, designed to help protect businesses against the current surge in Web and e-mail threats believed to be linked to the Soccer World Cup.
Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking, says the presence of the World Cup competition in South Africa has coincided with a significant rise in data security threats, including viruses and spyware, e-mail phishing attacks, spam and malware infected e-mails.
“These threats are now all part of an onslaught of co-ordinated attacks making the selection of an appropriate solution critical for most organisations today,” he stresses.
“While some security solutions dilute the efficacy of their offerings by either using open source software or cutting essential features and services to save costs, Netgear has partnered with Kaspersky Lab and Commtouch to bring best-of-breed enterprise-strength Web and e-mail security technologies to its ProSecure STM platform,” he says.
ProSecure STM's modular software design is said to scan files and data streams up to five times faster than conventional methods. It employs millions of signatures to protect against known malware threats and advanced behavioural 'zero-hour' technology to discover and block suspected threats.
The ProSecure STM, featuring a hybrid cloud-based architecture, boasts an application control feature to allow businesses to enforce company network usage policies and preserve productivity by blocking access to public instant messaging and peer-to-peer applications.
