Datatec has appointed Gary Bullard to take over as CEO of Logicalis from next March, when its current head, Ian Cook, retires.
Cook, who joined Logicalis in 2003 and became its CEO in 2007, will stay on with the company as non-executive chairman.
Bullard will join the firm next month as CEO designate. He has more than 25 years' experience in the IT and telecoms industry, including his most recent position as CEO of the UK unit, and president of the Australia, Middle East and Asia region, for Logica.
Before that, Bullard was MD of BT's corporate business unit and president of BT Global Services. He has also held senior executive positions at IBM, including GM of IBM Global Services for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Datatec CEO Jens Montanana is "delighted that someone of Gary's calibre and international industry experience is joining us to lead Logicalis".
Logicalis is Datatec's second-largest revenue contributor, after Westcon, and accounted for income of $1.5 billion in the first half of the year.
"We look forward to working with Gary as Logicalis continues to show good organic growth bolstered by its recent acquisitions," says Montanana.
Logicalis has been steadily acquiring companies. In October, it bought iConsult, a hosted desktop and mail solutions provider, which has been incorporated into Logicalis' existing Channel Islands operation.
In March, it acquired the European subsidiaries of 2e2, excluding the UK business, for EUR24 million - then some R283 million - in shares and cash from the company's administrators. This came a few months after its UK operations were put under administration after the group, one of the UK's largest IT services companies, failed to secure finance to repay its "considerable debt", reported InformationAge.
These two deals were in addition to last September's purchase of the Colombian and Ecuadorian operations of Cibercall. That deal was a bid to boost Logicalis' Latin American presence.
Montanana thanked Cook for his contribution during the past decade, during which time Logicalis "transformed into a significant international brand serving over 20 countries".
Logicalis, headquartered in the UK, employs nearly 3 500 people worldwide and has around 6 000 corporate and public sector customers. It partners with Cisco, HP, IBM, CA Technologies, NetApp, Microsoft, VMware and ServiceNow on an international basis.
