Execution key in PM

The missing link between aspiration and results is execution, says recently established Realization Africa, the local outlet of US-based project management (PM) company Realization Technologies.

"In SA, we have incredible opportunities over the next few years with the infrastructure to deliver governmental and corporate initiatives," says Brian Norton, director of Realization Africa. "If we can master execution, it means realisation of more benefits faster, while increasing the availability of investment funds to more projects."

Multi-project environments are too difficult to manually, he says. "Many tasks need to be coordinated with many different resource groups that are often in different geographic locations," he explains.

Many business do not streamline execution, and do not realise that by shrinking project cycle times, space is created for more projects, he says, which can increase project throughput by up to 25%.

"Our focus is not on decreasing costs necessarily, but on adding value by increasing the amount of projects done within a given time," Norton concludes.
