The South African operation of Flights.com, the European e-travel agency, was launched at a function in Rosebank last night. The site features a proprietary "two-click" booking system, and claims to offer passengers savings of up to 70% on published fares.
Richard Somogyvari, Flights.com SA MD, says the company hopes to capture the lion`s share of the local online travel market on the strength of these low fares, its range of destinations, and user-friendly technology.
"Our exceptional efficiencies and sound relationships with airlines around the world allows us to offer passengers fares that are on average significantly lower than even the discounted fares offered by our competitors."
These efficiencies and relationships stem from sheer size, according to the company.
Internationally, Flights.com operates from 24 points of presence, and reportedly has more than one million registered users. The company says its worldwide database contains up to 70 million fares at any time, to 3 800 destinations on 260 airlines accredited by the International Air Transport Association.
"In SA, we already have in excess of 100 000 fares loaded; before year-end we expect to sport at least 200 000," notes Somogyvari.
