Leaf Wireless and the WildFly national fly-fishing club have launched a portal with an associated mobile platform interface to give fly-fishing enthusiasts access to a national records database in real-time.
The new offering was demonstrated to participants at the first round of the Leaf Corporate Trophy Challenge held at Nottingham Road, KwaZulu-Natal earlier this month. The portal allows for information relevant to the fly-fishing community to be collected, analysed and delivered through a mobile platform interface developed by Leaf Wireless to a cellular device.
Leaf Wireless says this allows the fly-fishing community to compare catch records with those of others via interactive voice response or from an SMS emanating from the GSM handset.
"The capability of utilising a mobile tool in this way was a new experience to all the participants in this competition," says Quinton Leigh, executive director of Leaf Wireless. "It was indicative of how easy it was to access this 'new` information stream, in that almost all of the contestants experimented with this new service."
"Never before in the history of this sport has there been so much information available to assist fly-fishermen," says Gareth George, director of WildFly. "This technology will change the face of the sport, arming every angler with the critical information about that specific stretch of water, giving you the best chance to catch your adversary."
The service, enabling any fly-fishing resort, club, syndicate or private individual to monitor and publish their records, will be available in September. To register, call 083 123 3474.
