Fraudulent sites shut down

Over 1 200 Web sites have been deregistered by the Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime Unit (PceU), as part of an operation to combat fraud, says Computing.co.uk.

The sites all claimed to sell designer goods at bargain prices, but shoppers either did not receive the items or were given counterfeit goods. They also ran the of having their information harvested and misused elsewhere, according to the PCeU.

The organisation worked with .uk registry Nominet to cut off the domain names at a registry level so that they cannot be re-registered in the future.

Recession highlights IT function

A majority (72%) of business and IT executives say their organisations place greater value on the IT function now than they did before the economic crisis, says PR-Canada.net.

They also view IT as an important part of their economic recovery efforts, according to the findings of a global study released by Accenture and produced in cooperation with the Economist Intelligence Unit.

In terms of specific areas of investment, while acknowledging the importance of customer relationships and service, IT chiefs are also expecting significant funding for e-business (32%) and service-oriented architecture projects (31%).

Eureka goes digital

Quasar's Mumbai team has bagged the account for Eureka Forbes, a company that offers water purification systems, vacuum cleaners, and air purifiers, says Exchange4media.com.

As the digital AOR, Quasar will be fulfil the complete range of digital responsibilities, which includes SMO, SEO, ORM, Web site, online media planning and buying.

There was no digital AOR prior to Quasar's appointment and the appointment is said to reflect the company's serious approach towards its digital media and creative strategy.
