Friend of the Court goes digital

Reams of paperwork at the Genesee County Friend of the Court are getting a new home, says MLive.com.

Employees have worked their way to 1999's paperwork, scanning files into a new document management system that officials say will create more efficiency and better service. Some of the files date back as far as 28 years.

The project has earned two national awards, one because the documents have been scanned into a digital system without using overtime or outsourcing. Genesee county commissioner Jamie Curtis said projects like this will free space in county buildings as rows and rows of stored documents can start being shredded, saving the county money on maintenance and energy bills.

YouTube rivals traditional TV

YouTube is fixed on finding new ways to hold viewer attention for longer periods of time - presumably to expose them to more of the advertising that contributes to more than 90% of Google's total revenues, reports True Slant.

The average YouTube user spends about 15 minutes a day watching online video compared to about five hours watching conventional television, which is its “true” competition, according to Hunter Walk, director of YouTube product management.

Walk is leading a team of about a dozen engineers, designers and project managers who are fine-tuning YouTube to give its users what they want - even when the users aren't quite sure what that is.

Wakf board digitises data

Records of State Wakf Boards (Muslim welfare service) will be computerised with the objective of bringing them more effectively under the purview of the Right to Information Act, according to the Deccan Herald.

“Computerisation of the records of the State Wakf Boards will involve preparing a detailed inventory of Wakf properties and creation of a centralised and Web-enabled base, which would help RTI applicants to get proper information regarding issues relating to such properties,” a source in the Ministry of Minority Affairs said.

CEO of Karnataka Board of Wakfs would be a member of the project management committee, which would be headed by the DDG of the National Informatics Centre.
