
Fujitsu has unveiled Fujitsu PalmSecure ID Match, part of what it calls its "ground-breaking biometric authentication technology". The device uses the unique pattern of veins in the human hand to verify identity.
Introduced at Fujitsu Forum 2014 in Munich this morning, the device protects access, data and payment and will be available globally from early 2015.
Thomas Bengs, head of Security Solutions at Fujitsu, says the device is in line with Fujitsu's "human-centric innovation" ? the theme of this year's forum, and Fujitsu's vision going forward.
He says PalmSecure is a good example of how Fujitsu is uniting people, information and infrastructure. "PalmSecure ID Match delivers reliable and easy-to-use multi-factor verification for a wide range of applications, enabling organisations of all sizes to protect access, data and payment. Alongside this, Fujitsu PalmSecure truedentity software extends this protection to secure data transfer as well as the data itself."
PalmSecure truedentity client/server-licence-based security software will leverage the PalmSecure palm-vein technology, offering maximum security for user authentication, identity management and secured data transfer channels.
According to Fujitsu, truedentity leverages the same technology used in Germany's electronic identity card project, which was developed to meet strict data protection regulations. It protects businesses' most sensitive and valuable information against any unlawful access at the highest technical level.
The PalmSecure device consists of a PalmSecure sensor, a touch-screen and processor board with latest ARM technology, plus a multi-card reader. Based on the associated software development kit (SDK), Fujitsu partners and clients can integrate this solution within their enterprise-to-enterprise applications, such as access control, both physical and logical, time and attendance, or replacement of passwords within critical applications.
Bengs adds the device meets the latest European Union directives and addresses security-sensitive scenarios across a wide range of sectors, including finance, retail and social security as well as other public sectors.
The technology combines multi-factor authentication of card and PIN with the individual's unique palm-vein scan to considerably strengthen security. "Moreover, businesses can easily develop their own specific applications, integrated within the device."
