Samsung has unveiled the Samsung Gear Fit - the first curved, Super AMOLED wearable device for the active user.
Speaking during the launch in Barcelona last night, CEO and president of the IT and Mobile Division at Samsung, JK Shin, said wearable technology must reflect the "diverse interests and needs of consumers".
He said it was with those needs in mind that Samsung has expanded its range of Gear devices. "The Gear Fit was designed to help those consumers striving to live more fit and active lives, without sacrificing their own personal style or their ability to stay connected on the go."
The Gear Fit's curved screen was designed to comfortably contour to consumers' wrists. it has a Super AMOLED display, and over and above being a fitness band, integrates with Galaxy smartphones to alert customers to instant notifications from Galaxy smartphones, such as incoming calls, e-mails, SMS, alarm, S-planner and other third-party apps.
The straps are also interchangeable, and come in black, orange and mocha grey, to allow users to "express their individual style" and change the look of the device to suit their mood or outfit.
The Gear Fit's settings are controlled with swipes and taps, and the widescreen style allows users to add extra information to the default view alongside the watch mode. It is also IP67 rated for dust and water resistance, and features Bluetooth 4.0 LE, a heart rate sensor on the underside, and a pedometer for general fitness tracking.
Users can expect the battery to last between three and four days of normal usage, and around five days of low usage.
The Gear Fit will be available in SA from mid-April.
