Google gives free upgrade

Google is introducing a free universal search system that is able to merge items from a broad variety of repositories in a single results list, according to All Headline News.

Its customer base of about 10 000 companies will now be able to upgrade - at no cost - Google`s Search Appliance with native support for enterprise content management systems.

"Connector" modules that will support these systems will be included in Google`s Search Appliance`s Version 5.0 software, either this week or next week.

Open Text controls IM

Open Text has extended its records management offering to help organisations better manage content created in real-time communications applications such as instant messaging (IM), according to CNN Money.

Offered in partnership with FaceTime Communications, these solutions broaden Open Text offerings for enterprise records management to encompass all types of electronic communication.

"Open Text is once again leading the market in innovation. In partnership with FaceTime, we can now enable customers to enforce a consistent, centralised policy across all environments, including IM and e-mail," said Peter Lipps, VP and GM of Enterprise Records Management Business at Open Text.
