Science and technology minister Mosibudi Mangena has launched an International Science and Innovation and Technology Exhibition (INSITE) to be staged in SA in November.
The INSITE exhibition at Gallagher Estate in Midrand, which will feature both local and global experts, aims to showcase innovations, products and technologies that are geared towards driving SA`s development.
Mangena says the exhibition is being organised with key objectives such as the creation of an international marketplace for innovation, science and technology (IST) solutions in the context of long-term sustainability.
"We want to promote IST partnerships for global sustainable development, provide networking opportunities within the industry, and enable IST experts to identify joint initiatives globally."
Mangena says he hopes to see innovative ideas that are representative of the country`s socio-economic challenges, including poverty relief and job creation.
A biotechnology conference will run alongside INSITE, jointly hosted by the four local Biotechnology Regional Innovation Centres. The Bio2Biz 2004 was set up with the aim of facilitating the development and promotion of local biotech industries, and will include private and public sector biotech participants.
Mangena says developing nations have cultivated best practices and applications, particularly in ICT and biotech. "We hope that experts in these areas will participate [in the event] in order to share ideas on innovative methods, and exchange information and experiences we could use to put our science and technology system on a path to sustainable development."
INSITE, which will take place from 1 to 3 November, will also showcase local medical advancements. E-mail moreinfo@bio2biz.co.za for more information on Bio2Biz 2004.
