The government`s Batho Pele Gateway is helping improve government transparency, says public and administration minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi.

Service transactions will become available online during the next phase of the project, she adds.

Fraser-Moleketi told a parliamentary media briefing: "Government has taken transparency to the next level with the publication of its Programme of Action on the government Web site."

She said nine multi-purpose community centres at Mbazwana, Sterkspruit, Mapela, Lerethlabetse, Atlantis, Mpuluzi, Tombo, Namahadi and Galeshewe had been the locations for the launch of the Batho Pele Gateway on 3 August. In addition to these pilot projects, several Post Offices are also connected and a call centre is now operational in six languages.

"In this way, information on a range of government services may be found in one location, and through the efforts to expand the reach of Gateway, may also be found close to the people," she said.

Fraser-Moleketi said phase one of the project is being consolidated, and will include expansion of access to the portal and the improvement of the quality of information.

"In the next phases of Gateway, service transactions will be available online."
