GSK refines manufacturing ops

Manufacturing improvements and the alignment of plant tactics with corporate strategy are two objectives behind GlaxoSmithKline's deployment of solutions and services from Informance International at two manufacturing facilities, states FiercePharma Manufacturing.

The pharmaceutical giant's Clifton, New Jersey, and Aiken, South Carolina, plants are being assessed to determine how business intelligence can help sustain the effects of operational excellence activities, according to an Informance announcement.

The solutions provider says that overall equipment effectiveness tools are a good starting point, but that pharmaceutical manufacturers need solutions that "deliver facts, pervasive visibility, and root cause analytics".

Defiance Tech geared for growth

Technical arm of Hinduja Group, Defiance Tech, has embarked on multi-dimensional growth strategy, which is expected to yield five-times growth in the next two to three years, says CIOL.

Defiance has planned to broaden solution offerings, industry verticals, and also its reach to a new level. It has also appointed Subu D Subramanian as the CEO.

Subramanian said this expansion would help Defiance to diversify and enter into new market, still staying close to its core-competency of manufacturing.

Low-power process boosts efficiency

Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing has released an enhanced version of its 65-nanometer low-power process, dubbed 65nm LPe, which utilises innovative leakage-reduction techniques to significantly improve system-on-chip standby power consumption by up to 50%, writes IQ Online.

The result is a lower-power process especially suited for battery-operated and cost-sensitive mobile applications that require active standby conditions, such as mobile handsets, multimedia players or personal Internet devices, the company explained.

The process is also supported by a robust range of IP specifically optimised for the lower leakage capabilities. "Today's high-volume mobile applications require highly optimised silicon solutions that operate in an extremely power-efficient manner, but don't compromise performance or functionality," said Brian Klene, vice-president, product marketing at Chartered.
