Guests at the Euphoria Golf Estate will now have access to a telecoms network recently built by Spescom Telecommunications.
This communications solution is built on an extensive centralised optic fibre backbone with ADSL2+ 'last mile' connectivity.
According to Spescom, it offers residents and guests broadband data and voice capabilities and will in future, as these services become available in SA, provide IP TV and video on demand.
The company's MD, Thomas Makore, says the estate is located in an area that is not well served by the incumbent or other large network operators. “Spescom Telecommunications, as a supplier of access and transport networking equipment and services to the major network operators in SA, is easily able to build access network infrastructures for smaller organisations such as Euphoria Estate.” He adds that this enables them to integrate or link to larger operators' infrastructures with maximum benefit.
According to Euphoria, of all the proposals it reviewed, the solution put forward by Spescom most closely met its requirements in terms of functionality and cost. The company wanted a low initial capital outlay.
Makore states: “Spescom Telecommunications proposed the installation of an xDSL network comprising 6.5km of underground fibre optic backbone. Nine network cabinets then connect the main buildings and various residential units via copper cable (under 1km in length) to the fibre network.”
The estate's fibre optic backbone connects directly to central services through a broadband connection from Telkom, he says. “Since the copper cables are less than 1km long and comprise ADSL 2+ cables that enable 25MBps rather than the standard 384kbps throughput, high-bandwidth services such as video on demand can be offered.”
He adds that an agreement with an ISP is being negotiated, which will provide all the necessary services to the estate by end 2009 till first quarter 2010.
In addition, its network processor-powered traffic and bandwidth management capabilities assist in negating the effects of IPTV middleware deficiencies currently being experienced elsewhere. This enables operators to deliver broadcast-quality TV and video services with an increased level of quality of service confidence.
The company is confident the communications network at Euphoria Estate will meet the current and future needs of its residents, allowing for easy migration to new technologies as this becomes necessary.
"We look forward to continuing our relationship with Spescom Telecommunications as the estate develops and matures," the estate says.
