HP has taken up a silver sponsorship at the SAP Saphila 2012 conference, and as part of this sponsorship, will be supplying the hardware for the event.

According to Chris Evans, HP's business unit and sales manager for business-critical systems, Saphila is an important opportunity for HP to show customers the extent of the association between HP and SAP from a brand perspective. "Where SAP is going with regards to their initiatives, with their database initiatives and with HANA, it makes for an interesting relationship between HP and SAP," he says.

HANA is SAP technology that it says operates 100 000 times faster than traditional databases, making huge volumes of available in sub-second times.

On an international level, HP and SAP have a strong strategic partnership, and Evans asserts that the relationship between the two in SA is ongoing. "When looking at where SAP is headed with regards to HANA, HP plays a vital role, as our technology fits into and supports their stack. Beyond this, our relationship with SAP from an HP perspective is to showcase HANA and Sybase ASE and other technologies that will be hosted on HP equipment," Evans says.

Evans predicts that HANA will soon become the heartbeat and the centre of all SAP software, and because HP builds appliances that support HANA, it intends to support progression from a hardware perspective.

One of the key reasons for attending Saphila 2012 is the fact that delegates will get to mingle with a diverse range of high-profile, C-level executives, says Evans. "If you look at the timeframe that you have - two days of opportunities to talk to and network with these kinds of people - it's invaluable," he says, adding that, from an interaction and exposure perspective, Saphila is a must.

For HP, Saphila is a forum for the brand to speak to the market and show it what HP technology can do when used with SAP software and HANA.

"Any business that is going to be running SAP needs to understand where SAP is going as a business. If you are a customer or want to take on SAP as a partner, you need to understand where their technology is going and who their core partners are," says Evans.

HP is presenting three sessions at Saphila, two of which are HANA focused.
