HP has introduced HP Converged Cloud Services for Airlines, the airline industry's first hybrid delivery approach to cloud, aimed at helping airlines to more effectively respond to the changing needs of travellers.
The platform extends the power of the cloud across infrastructure, applications and information. According to HP, it incorporates industry-standard protocols and an industry-specific service-oriented architecture.
Says HP, the platform includes HP Passenger Service Solution, which combines core HP Travel and Transportation industry solutions into a single, integrated airline inventory, reservation and travel platform.
In addition, it offers HP Airline Service Oriented Architecture Platform, which offers a library of airline-specific Web services, driving rapid development of revenue-generating airline products.
This enables airlines to integrate standalone applications and data with new value-added services.
HP Enterprise Cloud Services are also included, and combine server, storage and network resources into a pre-built, off-premise cloud based on HP Converged Infrastructure.
The company says this will allow airlines to quickly scale to the needs of their business with enterprise-grade cloud computing on a per-server basis while reducing capital and operational expenses.
There are several benefits to airlines that adopt the platform, the tech giant says. These include an improved ability to deliver products and services to drive ancillary revenue growth, and the ability to scale to meet organisational demands using a shared services platform optimised for the airline industry.
In addition, HP says airlines can lower capital expenditures, operating expenses and distribution costs by leveraging existing investments to gain access to new system functionality.
