HP unveils tech solutions
HP unveiled technology solutions for the retail sector and small and medium businesses; designed to cut costs and enhance customer experience, reports South Asia Mail.
The retail technologies include touch-enabled personal computers, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and LCD digital signages with an interactive display.
HP is also currently testing a giant interactive touchscreen wall that reduced the potential for damage by interpreting gestures without the requirement of direct touch.
Retail Pro, Mercury integrate
Mercury Payment Systems and Retail Pro International have released their fully integrated, PA-DSS compliant payment processing solution for Retail Pro's POS system, says Business Solutions.
The new solution delivers seamless, high-speed payment processing to Retail Pro users in the US and Canada. The interface was jointly developed by both companies to meet the needs of Retail Pro's diverse customer base. It supports credit, PIN debit, and gift card transactions.
"We're extremely excited to bring Mercury's integrated payments technology to the Retail Pro community," says Baird Kleinsmith, Mercury's director of channel sales.
Mac, iPhone boost Apple sales
Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook sang the praises of the forthcoming iPad, outlined the company's plans for retail expansion, and gave an overview of the company's other products during a talk before investors at the Goldman Sachs Technology & Internet Conference in San Francisco, reports Computerworld.
Just a month ago, Apple reported its best-ever quarterly performance, thanks to record Mac and iPhone sales. Cook is particularly effusive in his praise of the iMac, which he says is "very key, and we think it will continue to be very key".
The iMac is just one of the products that have helped the Mac outgrow the overall PC market in 20 of the last 21 quarters. "The ceiling [for Apple] is still far off," Cook says. Apple is also enjoying strong growth with the iPhone and iPod touch.
