HP upgrades portfolio

HP has introduced a services portfolio that it says offers increased vulnerability assessment, enhanced data protection and improved compliance controls, enabling customers to reduce infrastructure risks, reports Earth Times.

According to HP, the new services and solutions in the HP Secure Advantage portfolio helps customers establish a comprehensive security strategy encompassing key areas of the technology infrastructure - from the data centre to desktops and printers - across the enterprise and via the cloud.

Security and compliance continue to be a top concern for companies, whether spurred by threats or ongoing regulatory pressure.

Policy encourages govt info sharing

India's department of science and technology is framing a national data access and sharing policy that could change the way the government maintains and shares information, reports Live Mint.

Officials involved with the initiative said the move would, for the first time, create institutional systems to coax ministries into sharing as much information as possible, provided this does not pose a security risk.

The policy will help standardise data, says Rajesh Kalra, MD of risk management services, India. “Even something as simple as an updated document on the actual number of villages in India is hard to find,” Kalra said. “When we approach ministries, they rarely have fixed rates for certain kinds of data. Better data helps us make better risk assessments.”

Canon looks to e-governance

Digital imaging company Canon India is targeting a turnover of Rs 1 100 crore (R1.8 billion) during 2010, a growth of 25% compared to last year, says Economic Times.

From the state of Kerala, Canon was aiming at Rs 55 crore (R90 million) turnover against last year's Rs 36 crore (R60 milion), says director of the consumer system products division, VP Sajeevan.

E-governance in Kerala has not kicked off on expected lines so far. The implementation of various e-governance projects would mean huge potential for IT products in the state, he says, adding "we have huge expectations from Kerala".
