IBM amends POS focus
IBM has started installing a rapidly growing retail version of Windows in its computerised point-of-sale (POS) terminals and other devices it markets for use in retail stores and restaurants, says Computerworld.
IBM plans to offer Microsoft's Windows Embedded for Point of Service software in its SurePOS machines, as well as its self-service checkout systems and the interactive AnyPlace Kiosk product line.
The software, which is designed for smaller retail stores, is a three-year-old operating system that was updated by Microsoft last April.
Web-based tool adds sophistication
John Ryan, a global retail marketing agency, is making its marketing-driven content management system available as a standalone, Web-based service that integrates with existing or planned technical infrastructure, reports Earthtimes.
Messaging Manager is a Web-based content management solution designed for overlay onto existing or planned digital signage networks, and puts content and messaging decisions into the hands of the marketing team, without compromise to IT requirements.
Retailers are increasingly finding that in-store digital media, such as monitors and kiosks, provide an effective way to inform customers and enhance the shopping experience, he says.
RTE acquires retailerINC
Retail Technology Experts (RTE) has acquired Microsoft Dynamics RMS partner retailerINC, reports Retail Solutions Online.
"Over the last several months, I have been working with Microsoft to find a qualified partner to take over and support the retailerINC customers," says Steve Weber, one of the former owners at retailerINC. "I chose Technology Experts because I felt they had the expertise and retail technology experience to take over our operation and ensure smooth transition for our customers."
He says the acquisition helps the company hit the ground running in terms of having existing infrastructure in place along with qualified personnel and an existing customer base.
