IBM opens Vietnam innovation centre

IBM further expanded its reach into growing nations with the opening of the first IBM Innovation Centre in Vietnam, reports PR Newswire.

The centre aims to help local communities build skills and develop new technologies to support demand for infrastructure projects in , telecommunications, energy and government industries.

The centre, located in Ho Chi Minh City, will provide entrepreneurs, business , venture capitalists and academics across Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos with access to training workshops, consulting services, a broad technical infrastructure, and hands-on assistance to help bring new technologies to market.

Microchip company gets tech grant

RFMicron received a $675 000 grant from the Emerging Technology Fund, a US state-run fund that helps start-ups in cutting-edge industries, says Austin American-Statesman.

The Austin-based company develops advanced microchips for radio frequency identification tracking systems and received $250 000 from the fund last year.

Founder Shahriar Rokhsaz said the new money has helped the company attract top technical talent.

NVIDIA to host tech conference

NVIDIA, inventor of the graphics processing unit (GPU), has said its inaugural GPU Technology Conference will take place from 30 September to 2 October, reports redOrbit.

The event will focus on how developers, engineers, and researchers are using the GPU to solve the world's most important computing challenges.

The conference will encompass three simultaneous events - the Emerging Companies Summit, the GPU Developer Summit, and the NVIDIA Research Summit. Attendees will learn about the shifts occurring in computing, preview disruptive technologies, obtain tools and techniques that could impact mission-critical projects now, and network with experts and peers from across a broad range of fields.
