MultiChoice will soon change its subscribers` viewing habits when it releases the DStv personal video recorder (PVR) decoder which the company says will give viewers more control over what they view, and when and how they view it.

The decoder will function similar to the already available dual-view one but will have a hard drive and the capability to record programmes.

The company says the space on the hard drive will be able to accommodate many days` worth of programmes. The dual-view will also have the ability to record and playback in both viewing environments.

MultiChoice corporate affairs GM Fathima Haniff says the that will come with the decoder was locally developed.

According to Haniff, setting a recording is a simple as finding preferred programming in the electronic programming guide and pressing the record button. "The PVR will take care of all the other time-consuming functions such as selecting the right channel, the right date and the right time to record, all of which makes using the PVR much easier than a DVD or VCR recorder."

The decoder will also allow viewers to watch two different programmes in two different environments while recording a third completely different programme.

Other features include live pause, fast-forwarding recorded material, instant replay (suitable for live matches), slow motion and bookmarking, which can be placed in recorded programmes.
