IndigoCube, the internationally certified consulting and training company, has become the first business in the country to be accredited for the new South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) National Certificate in Business Analysis (SAQA ID 63909).
The accreditation was achieved from the Information Systems, Electronics and Telecommunications Technologies (ISETT) Sector Education Training Authority (SETA), in March.
“We aligned our existing courses with the Specific Outcomes found in the National Certificate in Business Analysis,” says Robin Grace, principal consultant for business analysis at IndigoCube.
The Business Analysis training programme, which is only a portion of IndigoCube's overall training offering, focuses on the roles and responsibilities of a business analyst, including all aspects of business requirements analysis.
These include performing requirements elicitation, analysis, and many of the other knowledge areas contained in the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK). Another advantage to the learner is the curriculum includes courses that give a total of over 150 IIBA Continued Development Units (CDU) required when Applying for CBAP exam or CBAP re-certification. That allows a learner to use the National Certificate in Business Analysis as a major milestone on the way to qualifying for the IIBA CBAP designation.
“The accreditation hasn't changed the content of the courses so successful graduates, past and present, will be able to work towards the NQF6-level national business analysis certificate qualification. IndigoCube has also has a SETA certified assessor and moderator to ensure the full process of achieving this qualification can be followed through with IndigoCube,” says Grace.
IndigoCube's business analysis courses are already aligned with the IIBA through its partnership with US-based B2T Training and IBM.
IndigoCube, formed by a core of industry veterans, provides solutions that enable large organisations to improve the quality and reliability of their software development processes. It also offers more than 60 instructor-led training and development courses focused on enhancing the full life cycle of software development skills that are relevant, practical and up to date with the latest industry thought leadership standards.
“The new SAQA certification allows organisations to claim back a portion of their training funds for business analysts,” says Grace. “Every incentive is a boon to the industry as there is a shortage of good, qualified business analysts in South Africa.”
IndigoCube's course material is sourced from strategic partners and represents some of the very best the world has to offer in each category.
“According to the BABOK version 2.0 business analysis is a set of tasks and techniques used to work as a liaison among stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies and operations of an organisation and to recommend solutions that enable the organisation to achieve its goals,” says Grace.
Where the solution requires a technology component, business analysts serve as the liaison between business people and technology people. Successful business analysts facilitate a series of processes to accurately elicit and communicate the requirements of a business to ensure that the technology team builds a software system that will effectively meet the needs of the business people. Good business analysis can dramatically reduce the overall project cost. Consequently, the programme focuses on bridging the gap between these two groups of stakeholders by equipping business analysts with a thorough knowledge of the diverse and broad skills that are required to be effective.
“While the training meets the requirements of the new SAQA certification, it also equips business analysts to deal with the practical realities of the business environment,” says Grace.
