In its first domestic software distribution deal, channel giant Ingram Micro has signed an agreement with Microsoft in SA.
Yesterday, Ingram Micro SA's new Microsoft manager, Nicola Homewood, announced it had been awarded official OEM distribution status, with immediate effect. Ingram Micro entered the South African market last year.
"This agreement is of considerable value to us locally as it allows us to offer our channel partners a more complete portfolio of products which now encompasses both hardware and software," says Homewood. "To our vendors, the agreement also offers tremendous cross- and up-selling opportunities."
Reggie Nxumalo, OEM director at Microsoft SA, says the local agreement builds on Microsoft's international partnership with Ingram Micro.
"While it obviously makes sense for us to extend our international relationship with Ingram Micro on a local basis, partnering with Ingram Micro SA brings business to a growing market," Nxumalo notes.
Peter Ibbotson, CEO of Ingram Micro SA, says: "This appointment is another vital step in expanding our portfolio to comprise the world's leading IT brands and, in doing so, offer our resellers the widest variety of technology building blocks available in the local market."
Ingram Micro SA is a joint venture between Ingram Micro Europe and MB Technologies.
Its local hardware partners include Imation, Iomega, Promise, Kingston Technology and Seagate. Ingram Micro International is the world's largest technology distributor.
