Independent software consultancy, nFold and the Computer Society of SA (CSSA) have developed an award recognising the most innovative use of software.
Sandy Pullinger, CEO of nFold, announced the initiative, named Leapfrog, at the Futurex conference and exhibition yesterday.
Leapfrog hopes to uncover techniques that will enable companies to gain competitive advantage in the industry by using software more innovatively, nFold said in a statement.
"It`s not what you use, but how you use it," Pullinger said. "This award is all about separating the sheep that follow from the wolves leading the pack."
When deciding on a winner, Pullinger explained that fundamental criteria will be used.
"We will be asking the basic questions, such as why certain software is being used within an organisation, what is being used, and how it is being used."
So how does a company "leapfrog"? Pullinger`s advice is: "Firstly, you need to identify your business needs, then you must be different if you want to lead."
Pullinger has formed Software in Action, a special interest group that falls under CSSA governance. The group will facilitate events, which examine how software can be used to improve business results.
