Intel this morning announced a number of official distributors, a move it hopes will encourage customers to buy Intel products that reach the market through "the right channels".
The vendor has recognised Arrow Altech Distributors, Axiz, Comztek and Rectron as its official distributors.
Steve Nossel, country manager for Intel SA, commented that it is hoped the announcement will bring to the market an understanding of the benefits to be had from buying through the right channels, such as the training and support offered by official Intel distributors. Customers that based their buying decisions purely on price of product alone were often unaware of the additional cost of such value-adds, he said.
Nossel also remarked on the current shortage of Pentium 4 microprocessors, saying that while it was frustrating not to be able to supply the market, he believed the sell-out situation would only last another three weeks.
Meanwhile, the shortage has boded well for Advanced Micro Devices, Intel`s closest rival in the microprocessor field. Alex Mann, local representative for AMD, says that sales of the Athlon 1.4G processor have been very good, with a strong move towards the product in the high-end consumer market.
