AMF, a supplier of bakery systems in the US, has chosen Johannesburg-based Technology Concepts over other international suppliers to on the re-engineering of its systems supporting sales management and proposal generation.

"We are delighted to have won the AMF deal against some of the top vendors in the world," says Wayne de Nobrega, Technology Concepts MD.

AMF Bakery Systems designs, manufactures, installs and services dough, bread, bun, pan product, packaging and distribution systems around the world. "For this reason it was decided to develop a Web-based solution that can be accessed by employees through a variety of devices from wherever they are," explains De Nobrega.

Richard MacArthur, AMF sales and marketing VP, says the company struggled with several business processes in the past, including the quotations, proposals, inventory and sales forecasting.

"Technology Concepts took it upon themselves to thoroughly understand AMF`s sales and business processes and put together a proposal for developing to address all these problems," says MacArthur.

"The solution also includes functions relating to information and interaction management, system configuration, effective sales management reporting and automation of professional system generated proposals."

De Nobrega says the quotation process was streamlined by implementing a registering and tracking mechanism that allows all sales people to generate quotes based on a set of configuration rules.

"By analysing the business needs and building a solution that fitted the way AMF does business, we were able to deliver a far better proposition than any off-the-shelf product," says De Nobrega.

"AMF did not have to adapt their business to the software and we were able to deliver a 100% fit."

MacArthur says Technology Concepts has consolidated the sales and marketing systems, creating a dedicated solution to ensure reliable communication across the sales system "for a fraction of the price of other larger systems".

"We were able to deliver at a much lower cost," explains De Nobrega, "by building our solution on a Linux platform using PHP and open source database software, saving money on hardware and licensing."
