ISACA conference starts in Jo`burg

The annual South African chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association`s (ISACA`s) 2006 conference kicked off in Sandton this morning.

ITWeb would like to point to a factual error in this article. ISACA did not develop Sarbanes-Oxley, but rather publishes a guideline called "Control Objectives for Sarbanes-Oxley" that assists companies in achieving IT compliance for Sarbanes-Oxley. ITWeb apologises for the error.

ISACA, a non-profit organisation, has since its inception in 1969 been responsible for publishing and providing frameworks and best practices such as Sarbanes-Oxley and CobIT, explained Max Blecher, president of ISACA in SA.

The association boasts more than 50 000 members in more than 140 countries, he said.

International conference speakers include Howard Schmidt, former White House advisor and member of ISACA; and Erik Guldentops, executive professor at the University of Antwerp in Belgium.

"It is good to see that what the association does on a daily basis has global effects," said Schmidt. "We have always worked to get groups together, especially in security and ."

The conference will run over two days and post-conference workshops will be offered on 13 and 14 September, entitled "Implementing IT Governance using CobIT" and "Wireless Network Security and Audit".
