High-profile men from the banking, tax and financial software sectors feature strongly in this year`s list of finalists for the IT Personality of the Year award, presented by the Computer Society of South Africa, ITWeb and META Group.
The six finalists were selected from a short-list of 10 nominees after a cross-industry nomination process. The finalists are:
* Dr Alewyn Burger, director of direct banking at Standard Bank
* Christo Davel, Standard Chartered Bank`s head of retail
* Phil Duff, Syspro CEO
* Ken Jarvis, SA Revenue Services CIO
* Cecil Machi, Imvo Technologies CEO
* Dali Mpofu, director of corporate affairs at Altron
Burger has been involved in banking since 1979, and is credited with project managing the merging of four Absa IT systems into a single integrated operation, among other achievements.
Davel has 17 years` experience in the SA IT industry, and was founder and CEO of online bank 20Twenty.
Jarvis is a 29-year veteran of the IT industry and is credited with launching some of the biggest IT projects undertaken at the South African Revenue Services.
Duff built his company from an accounting software start-up in 1978, showing consistent growth in a competitive market.
Machi is a self-made man who launched and built up his ICT and management company in KwaZulu-Natal some years ago. The company is now regarded as one of the leading IT companies in the region.
Mpofu also serves as a director in other companies and is known for his involvement in development and anti-corruption initiatives. He was appointed as chairperson of the ICT BEE Charter Working Group this year.
A panel of judges will interview all six finalists and the winner will be announced at the Computer Society of South Africa`s annual president`s awards winner at the Sandton Sun hotel on 22 October.
