IT to survive slump

SAP Malaysia still sees information technology (IT) as an area in which organisations will not compromise on despite the current economic climate, says The Star Online.

Country manager Anne Abraham said the plantation and commodities sector would also offer new areas of growth for SAP's business solutions.

"The stronger the mid-size companies are, the stronger the economy will be," she said. Small and medium-sized enterprises currently make up about 40% of SAP Malaysia's revenue and customer base.

4 000 SMEs enter competition

According to New Vision, an ongoing 'Start Your Business' competition in Uganda has attracted over 4 000 business proposals.

Over $250 000 is up for grabs for the top business ideas in the competition funded by the World in partnership with the Ugandan government.

Yvonne Munabi, the business plan competition officer, said applicants used the 'Start Your Business' website to expose them to the usage of technology to promote their business.

Several tailor-made packages have been unveiled by DP Bureau to help SMEs secure a technological edge, says Asia Online Business.

DP Bureau is a one-stop advisory centre for entrepreneurs.

The offers are part of the SME Infocomm Packages introduced by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore.
