ITWeb wins top ICT journo award

ITWeb portals managing editor and columnist Warwick Ashford has been named joint winner in the Electronic media category at the Telkom ICT Journalist of the Year 2005 awards.

The annual awards recognise excellence in ICT journalism in South Africa, and include awards for print, broadcast and electronic media. The awards were presented byTelkom CEO Papi Molotsane at a ceremony in Kyalami last night.

Ashford, who was also a runner-up in the electronic category in the 2004 Telkom ICT Journalist of the Year awards, shares the top accolade with Belinda Anderson, formerly of Moneyweb.

Financial Mail Associate Editor Duncan McLeod won the overall award and was named the 2005 Telkom ICT Journalist of the Year.

The category winners were:
* Electronic: Joint winners: Belinda Anderson (for articles published on Moneyweb) and Warwick Ashford (ITWeb)
* Television: Siki Mgabadeli (SABC TV)
* Mainstream newspaper: Gugulakhe Masango (Business Report)
* Business magazine: Duncan McLeod (Financial Mail)
* New Journalist: Joint winners: Lloyd Gedye (Mail & Guardian) and Thabiso Mochiko (Business Report)
* : Belinda Anderson (Moneyweb)
* Lifestyle magazine: Patricia McCracken (Caxton Magazines)
* Community newspaper: Ryan Noik (Sandton Chronicle)
* Student category: Peter McMahon (University of Cape Town)
