Java extends global

Sun Microsystems has released a complete, production quality Java technology stack and developer tools with the latest release of Ubuntu, v7.04, that it says will make it easier for GNU/Linux developers to leverage the Java platform in their applications, says Media Newswire.

Comprising key popular Java technologies, the stack was available in the Multiverse component of the Ubuntu repository on 19 April. These technologies are available for Ubuntu users to install over the network with apt-get and other standard software management tools.

"Sun and Canonical are working together to bring the full power of the Java platform in a fully integrated and easy to install fashion to the free and open source software communities," said Ian Murdock, chief operating systems officer, Sun. "Sun is committed to open source and will continue to promote transparency in software-development by facilitating the creation of innovative technology, with the help of the developer community."

Web 2.0 vulnerable

A recently documented major vulnerability in Web 2.0 and Ajax-based software highlights the need for to be built into applications at the start of development, says ZD Net Asia.

Fortify Software said it had discovered a major vulnerability in Web 2.0 frameworks and Ajax-based software, identified as JavaScript Hijacking. This allows an attacker to use JavaScript to steal critical by emulating legitimate users.

The company analysed the 12 most popular Ajax frameworks and determined that among them, only version 2.0 of open source Direct Web Remoting implements mechanisms for preventing JavaScript Hijacking.

Java conference adds attractions

Network developer, Sun Microsystems' 2007 JavaOne Conference, has added two one-day tracks to its event, featuring 250 conference sessions, 117 BoFs and 15 Hands-on-Labs, says Websitehostdirectory.
