Fledgling specialist software company, Mastermed, has introduced what it claims is the first medical practice management package to be tightly integrated with widely recognised accounting software.
"Mastermed for Pastel delivers a whole new practice management and accounting approach for doctors, specialists and other medical practitioners," says Terry Kier, Mastermed CEO and former Softline Pastel MD. "Mastermed is the only medical practice management product to be endorsed by Pastel."
Kier says the integration with Pastel accounting reduces the margin for error and automatically updates the account records and status of every patient. "To facilitate its market entry, Mastermed acquired HAS Software, developer of Medad 2000, a Windows-based medical practice software application."
HAS Software founder and Medad developer Louis van Deventer is now a partner in Mastermed and says the new software streamlines processes, allowing medical practitioners to maintain their focus without getting bogged down in detail.
"Mastermed software runs on an SQL platform and will be available in single practice, multi-practice and clinic editions for medical practices with one doctor all the way up to clinics with eight or more doctors," says Kier.
"The software will include immediate updates of changes to service provider charge rates, medical benefit rates and clinical codes so that the entire process is always accurate and legal."
Steven Cohen, Softline Pastel CEO, says the medical practice software industry has in the past been reluctant to reinvest to update products with graphical interfaces and other new technologies, leaving a widening gap in the market.
"Mastermed, with its graphical interface, Windows base and seamless real-time integration with Pastel, is going to fill this gap."
