Knowledge management to hit 473bn

New findings by AMR Research finds that US companies will spend more than $73 billion on knowledge management this year, reports Sys.com.

Based on a survey of 350 IT and line-of-business decision-makers, the report also claims the spending will grow nearly 16% to an average of $1 224 per employee in 2008.

"The Knowledge Management Spending Report" also looks in depth at the four major software categories of AMR Research's Active Knowledge Framework: portals and portal frameworks; content and document management systems; navigation, search and retrieval; and collaboration.

Vignette manages TV content

Vignette has deployed its Vignette Digital Services Hub to power the online presence of MBC Television, one of the Middle East's largest broadcast channels with a global footprint, reports ECM Connection.

MBC.net leverages the Vignette Digital Services Hub to deliver programme information and video clips to more than 20 000 visitors daily. It also enables the launch of microsites, an essential requirement for adding new services like online communities, mobile access and IPTV.

"As the lines between Web and television begin to blur, customers are demanding more personalised services like video-on-demand and social networks," said Dr Ammar Bakkar, group director of New Media at MBC.

Hospital saves time

One of the UK's biggest is increasing efficiency and saving staff time with a single sign-on and content management system, according to Computer Weekly.

Portsmouth's Queen Alexandra Hospital is rolling out a Sentillion system, allowing clinicians to log on and access necessary programs within seconds.

The full roll-out is expected to be complete by next year, when all historical patient records will have been scanned on to the system.

Virgin Mobile calls on Interwoven

Virgin Mobile is transforming its Web presence with Interwoven to better serve its four million customers, reports CNNMoney.

The Interwoven platform for Web content creation, management and publishing is now standard for virginmobile.co.uk, giving it upgraded e-commerce capabilities, improved self-service, and more efficient provisioning of products and services.

In return, Virgin Mobile has seen a dramatic improvement in the contribution of its Web site to its business, from less than 6% of all sales volume in 2004 to now over 30%.
