The Department of Labour has launched a Web site aimed at making it easier for users to access the department`s services.

The department officially launched the site, www.labour.gov.za, in Pretoria yesterday, saying it was a "cost-effective and user-friendly site created as part of the quest to help bolster delivery and efficient information systems".

The new site experienced some technical problems and went offline for some time today, but is now back online.

Speaking at the launch, the acting director-general for the department, Dr Vanguard Mkosana, emphasised that the initiative will enhance the government`s mandate to empower and to effectively communicate government programmes, legislation and other relevant services.

He said the Web site would benefit workers, employees and other stakeholders alike. It is aimed at unions, union federations, special interest groups of employees and the unemployed. The site includes information on labour legislation and procedures, as well as contact details of CCMA, unemployment and labour offices.

"Web site questions will be answered within three days; the home page will be updated daily; new information will be found on the home page; annual reports, legislation and ad hoc reports will be available for downloading," he said.
